Product investigation using titration
Syllabus VMBO: Product investigation
Question 1 / 50 correct
The reference is 0.0500 g acid per mL titrant. 8.00 mL titrant was used. How much acid was measured?
More explanation and a worked example
The reference connects volume and mass
For this fictional method, 1.00 mL of titrant corresponds to 0.0500 g of the acid being measured. This factor applies only to the stated method and substance. No mole conversion is needed here.
Compare matching units
A label in g per 100 mL must be compared with a result in g per 100 mL. This is not automatically a mass percentage. For a diluted sample, also use the dilution factor. An indicator endpoint is not automatically pH 7.
10.0 mL of product uses 12.0 mL of titrant. The reference is 0.0500 g acid per mL of titrant.
- Acid in the sample: 12.0 × 0.0500 = 0.600 g.
- Scale from 10.0 mL to 100 mL: multiply by 10.
